European Universities Sport Climbing Championship 2017

Split, Croatia: July 25-28, 2017

 

The European Universities Sport Climbing Championship 2017 was held in Split, Croatia, hosting over 70 individual participants, representing 19 universities, from 12 different countries. The championship took place along with the European Universities Championships of 3x3 Basketball and Beach Volleyball, hosting a total of over 400 participants, representing 64 universities from 27 European countries.

 


 
The Championships were organised by the Split University Sports Association, the University of Split and the Croatian Academic Sport Federation (CASF), with the support of the President of the Republic of Croatia, and in partnership with Municipality of Split, Split – Dalmatia County, Sports Climbing Club Marulianus and the Beach Volleyball Club Žnjan.

 


 
EUSA was officially represented by EUSA Executive Committee member Mr Tarmo Jaakson and by the EUSA Technical Delegate Mr Matteo Pastori. The team was also supported by EUSA Communications and Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl, and Sports Assistant Mr Davor Travnikar.

 


 
In the boulder category, the gold was won by Aleksandr Shikov from the Industrial University of Tyumen (RUS) and by Ajda Remskar from the University of Edinburgh (GBR), in the men’s and women’s competition respectively. In the speed category, the Russian athletes from the Industrial University of Tyumen (RUS) dominated the competitions, with Aleksandr Shikov and Yulija Kaplina winning the gold in the men’s and women’s competitions respectively. Lastly, in the lead category, the men’s competition was won by Simon Lorenzi, from the Catholic University of Louvain (BEL). Whilst In the women’s competition, the gold was conquered by Jennifer Wood from University of Sheffield (GBR).

 


 
Winner of the Combined Men was  Simon Lorenzi from the Catholic University of Louvain (BEL) and for the Super Combined Men, Aleksander Shikov from the Industrial University of Tyumen (RUS). In the female category, the United Kingdom dominated the best achievements, with the Combined and Super Combined awarded respectively to Jennifer Wood, from University of Sheffield (GBR), and to Ajda Remskar, from the University of Edinburgh (GBR). The University team cup was taken by the Industrial University of Tyumen (RUS), deserved winners of the award.
 


As part of the closing ceremony, all athletes were invited to the next European Universities Sport Climbing Championship, which will be in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2019.
